MELVIN BLACKWELL, LCMHCA

Children, Adolescents & Adults

Hi, my name is Melvin Blackwell.

I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA).

I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Healthcare Management from the University of Mount Olive and my Master of Education degree in School Counseling from Liberty University. Additionally, I am a retired veteran of the United States Air Force, with 21 years of service.

I believe that seeking counseling requires bravery and I applaud you on taking this first step. Selecting a counselor who is the best fit for you and your personality is an important choice, and I believe that the relationship between the counselor and the client is the force that drives effective changes in a positive direction. As a clinician, I aim to provide a space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe supportive environment. I seek to meet people where they are with an authentic judgment-free approach. I believe that all clients can heal and grow regardless of the challenges that they have encountered in life.

In counseling, I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), as it seeks positive ways of breaking down problems that can be overwhelming into smaller parts. I employ other techniques/approaches such as Solution Focused, Person-Centered, and mindfulness, depending on the circumstance. I am interested in helping individuals, families, and couples in their personal and professional lives with life’s challenges. As a Professional School Counselor, I have experience working with children, teens, and young adults with the challenges that those years bring.
